While yesterday was the official CBMTRA Day of Action, our industry’s producers and importers still need your help to ensure the extension of the bill that will allow them to continue to prosper in the years ahead .
What is CBMTRA and why is it important? CBMTRA stands for the Craft Beverage Modernization and Tax Reform Act. The bill was enacted in 2018 and has been hugely successful in helping distillers, breweries, wineries, and importers grow their businesses through a more fair and equitable tax liability. The bill is set to expire at the end of 2019 and unless we convince Congress to make it permanent, small to medium producers and their import and distribution partners will face federal excise tax increases of up to 400% in 2020.
“The crucial tax benefits offered by this bill will support thousands of domestic and foreign companies as they add new jobs, purchase needed equipment, and continue to innovate and offer great products. If it is not passed, it has the potential to limit the capacity for growth and reduce competition as these lower rates are critical for smaller producers and importers to compete in the larger marketplace,” said Gabe Barkley, CEO of MHW.
“As an importer and service provider, our mission is to empower beverage companies of all sizes to prosper, so we are urging our friends and colleagues to join us in our efforts to convince Congress to support this bill,” Barkley continued.
